After a llama or alpaca is rescued, it is fostered where it can be monitored
and it's health can be assesed. It is quarantined for a period of time till it is
known to be free of any diseases or parasites which could be spread to other animals.
Typically it's health records are reviewed when they are available. If not, it receives
a full compliment of vaccines, wormings and tests to fully evaluate it's condition
an get it ready for adoption/re-homing. If necessary it is sheared according to season. It's
nails and teeth are checked and any necessary medical procedures are carried out. If it is in
the best interest of both the animal and it's new family, a male may be gelded prior
to placing it in it's new home.
We are not an adoption agency, we do not look for llamas or alpacas by request. Please do
not write us looking for a specific animal. Once an animal is ready for adoption
we will place them in a home that matches their and their new families needs.
Our goal is to make sure they have a good home and will be well cared for.
We have a standard contract which needs to be filled out prior to adopting an animal.
Of primary concern is that the family have the resources to be able to take care
of a llama or alpaca. They require special care and their needs are paramount to
finding them a new home. Please review the
contract and contact us if you have any questions about caring for a llama.
Before the contract is filled out we'll work with you to make sure an animal that
is up for adoption will be a good match for you and your home/farm. Some of these
animals
have special needs, and just like humans each has it's own personality. We'll work
together to make sure that you and the llama or alpaca will get along as well as
get along with the rest of your family and animals.
There is no fee for adopting a llama or alpaca. They are not for sale. They simply need
a good home to belong to. There are however many costs associated with rescuing
and re-homing an animal in need. As well as there are costs that will continue as you care for
your animal. We provide any and all care that the animals need when they reach us.
We would like to continue helping these animals and ask for their maintenance
and care costs we pay for to be covered. There is no set amount for this as each of their
needs are different. We can then help you plan for their care and discuss the associated costs for this as well. When you apply to adopt an animal
we will give you the costs we have incurred for their care.
